Two pages from instructions on how to recite the Torah

The way in which the Torah is recited is a cross between singing and speaking known as cantillation. In the 19th century, attempts are made to record styles of Torah recital that have been passed down through generations in modern notation. Given that such notation has to read from left to right, the Hebrew text needs to be adapted to meet this requirement and is therefore combined with a transcription in Latin script. The fact that two copies of the same sheet music were found in Niederzissen indicates that the document was used in teaching.
