The publication represents the international networking of scholars. Together with two partners, Rabbi Jehiel Brill, a renowned printer from Jerusalem, founded the second Hebrew printing press in the city. In 1870, he moved to Paris and then ultimately settled in Mainz. Here, in 1875, he went on to publish a Hebrew edition of the manuscript of this version of the Talmud, which he had brought with him from Jerusalem.
