Marie Regina Schuster is one of the pioneers of natural sciences at the beginning of the 20th century. As one of the first women to achieve a Doctorate in Chemistry, she joins BASF in Ludwigshafen in 1920. In 1924, she marries her colleague, Dr Curt Schuster. When her daughter Dorothea is born in 1925, she leaves her position at BASF. In her private life, she becomes a member of the left-wing liberal German Democratic Party (DDP) together with her husband in 1927. In 1943, Marie Schuster is imprisoned due to her Jewish descent and political convictions. She is deported to the extermination camp in Auschwitz in February 1944 and dies there on 14 March 1944.
