The Landesmuseum Mainz is one of the oldest museums in Germany. Founded in 1803, the current collections date back to the 16th century. They represent 30,000 years of cultural, human and social history in our region and beyond.
The cosmopolitan city of Mainz has been a hub between the Upper Rhine, Middle Rhine and Main since its Roman beginnings. The city’s wealth and international relations are reflected in the museum's holdings. The art and cultural history collections range from the early days of mankind to the present day. In addition to archaeological finds, today's museum displays paintings, sculptures, furniture and ceramics from various eras, objects relating to the history of Mainz, Judaica, Art Nouveau glass and an extensive graphic art collection.
