The two captured Teutons, shown in the relief in the context of a building in the legionary camp on the Kästrich, are naked. Brutally shackled with a joint chain around their necks and their hands tied behind their backs, they stand in a mirror-image contrapposto with their backs to each other. They are shown uncovered, with only a small cloak over their shoulders and their thick muscles, six-packs, and genitals clearly emphasised.
The emergence of representative architecture, where reliefs were prominently displayed on column pedestals, can be traced back to the final third of the first century.
The contemptuous depiction of the vanquished as naked barbarians can also be found in other sculptures in the Stone Hall, such as on the tombstones, which depict a Roman cavalry soldier riding over a naked barbarian and killing him in battle.
