No major compensation procedures or other comprehensive file material on Karl Bloch and his art dealership could be found. The most important source was therefore a file on Karoline Bloch, Karl Bloch's widow, who applied for a widow's pension under the Compensation Act after the end of the war. This file also deals with Karl Bloch's work as an art dealer and his income. As the tax office was no longer able to provide the necessary documents, an inquiry was sent to "Mr. Hartmann Antique dealer, Mainz, Ritterstraße b. Kominsky (sic!)", in which information on the scope and income of Kunsthandlung Bloch is requested. Joseph Hartmann (senior) replied: "Mr Bloch had a business relationship with me and, according to my estimate, had an annual income of approx. 6,000 RM." Gisbert Watrin, who used to prepare the tax returns for the Bloch family, also confirms that the size of his business brought in so much money that Karl Bloch was able to provide well for his family. Karl Bloch had to liquidate the business in 1934.
