War destruction

Just how badly Mainz was destroyed is also documented by these two plans of the city of Mainz kept in the Mainz city archives. The first plan shows the urban development situation in Mainz in 1933. The coloured markings were made after 1942. They document the destruction caused by the war: red = completely destroyed, blue = partially destroyed, green = badly damaged, yellow = slightly damaged.

The second map shows the destruction in the winter of 1946. Blue: mainly preserved, green = damaged, orange = completely destroyed
