Grape scissors

This pair of scissors is used to cut up bunches of grapes at the table.

In 1876, Martin Mayer is the first Jewish silversmith to become self-employed in Mainz. Although gold and silversmiths are no longer required to use the city’s hallmark from 1888, the company Mayer continues to stamp the Wheel of Mainz on its products, as was common since the 17th century. Mayer’s son and successor, Bernhard Albert Mayer, experiences the Aryanisation of his company in the Netherlands and flees to England. He, his parents and his children survive the persecution.
