The matchbox represents the match factory Benedick, Haupt & Co., whose co-owner Heinrich Benedick is an affluent middle-class Jewish citizen. The match factory is an example of a successful Jewish factory start-up. In 1938, Heinrich Benedick is arrested, deported to Dachau and then relocated several times before being murdered at the Jungfernhof concentration camp in Riga, Latvia.
