Remembrance model of a synagogue

The model, which looks like a toy, shows a residential building facing the street with a back building displaying the structural features of a synagogue. After the Jewish community is forced to move into the neighbouring ghetto (in 1662/1671), the synagogue in Klarastraße, which was inaugurated in 1639, has to be sold in 1686. This model serves as a memorial of the building and is the earliest ever reproduction of a synagogue in Mainz.
