Eugen Salomon

In early 1905, Eugen Salomon joins the newly established football club 1. Mainzer Fussballclub Hassia 05 (now 1. FSV Mainz 05) and is elected as its Chairman at the age of just 17 in October 1905. After the First World War, which he experiences in Lorraine, he contributes to the construction of a new stadium by donating a large amount of money as a member of the Board. After the National Socialists come into power, the club is deemed to be a “Jewish club”. In August 1933, all Jewish members of the Board are released from their positions in an extraordinary general meeting. Eugen Salomon flees to France in 1933/34 before being deported to Auschwitz in November 1942 and subsequently murdered.
