Covered mirror

Judaism involves a multitude of customs and rites that accompany individuals through dying and death. According to folklore and superstition, covering a mirror is meant to prevent the soul from becoming trapped in the mirror on its way into the afterlife. It also stops the mirror from ‘doubling’ the deceased and causing a second death in the same household in the near future. Mirrors and reflective surfaces are sometimes still covered up today to avoid trivial distractions during periods of mourning.
