For observant Jews, Judaism is a way of life that profoundly influences everyday life and society. Holidays combine historical, agricultural and religious events, which are celebrated in the synagogue and at home. Prayers are held three times a day: in the morning, at midday and in the evening. The main prayer is always the Eighteen Benedictions, the Shemoneh Esreh, which is recited in a standing position and contains words of praise and requests. Many secular Jews also feel strongly connected to the Jewish cultural circle but do not strictly observe its religious commandments.
