Judaism is based on a multitude of teachings and wisdoms that concern all areas of life. In as early as the 12th century, the scholar Moses Maimonides composed thirteen fundamental principles. These principles act as structured guidelines, but they are not designed to restrict the rich and diverse spectrum of Jewish beliefs.
I fully believe:
that the Creator, praised be His name, creates and governs all beings and that He alone is responsible for everything that has happened, is happening and will happen.
that the Creator, praised be His name, is unique, that no other entity is like Him in any respect and that He alone was, is and will be our exclusive God.
that the Creator, praised be His name, is incorporeal, that there is no way of presenting Him in material terms and that he cannot be given any shape or form.
that the Creator, praised be His name, is the beginning and the end.
that the Creator, praised be His name, alone is worthy of being worshipped and that worshipping other beings is improper.
that the words of the prophets are all true.
that the prophecy of our teacher Moses, peace be upon him, is true and that he was the father of all prophets both before and after him.
that the Torah that we now have in our possession is the same Torah that was given to our teacher Moses.
that this Torah cannot and will not be changed and that the Creator, praised be His name, will never replace it with a different teaching.
that the Creator, praised be His name, knows all actions and endeavours of humankind, for it is said that He who completely forms their hearts also knows all of their actions.
that the Creator, praised be His name, rewards all who obey His commandments and punishes those who break His commandments.
that the Messiah is coming, and that despite his long absence, I await his arrival every day.
that when the Creator, praised be His name and exalted be His memory, believes that the time is right, the dead will be resurrected.
