Over many years, Slevogt redesigned his parents-in-law’s former estate, Slevogthof, to suit his needs. Annexes such as a music hall and a library room were added. A huge terrace running parallel to the hillside was built in front of this room. From here, the artist could enjoy a wonderful view of the valley.
"Which Palatinate mood is his favourite and most appropriate?" To this, Slevogt responded: "Oh, he loves summer, when the pine smells spicy in the warm sand and the grapevine still smells wonderfully aromatic and tart-sweet. Autumn is the most picturesque, early spring the finest. And the winter? He loved unreservedly, as love does – his Rheinish Pfalz! ... He saw the world in the revelations of light and its play of colours."
