Meistermann was expelled from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1933 and banned from practicing his profession. He survived the period in internal emigration, educated himself further and was able to succeed as a painter, draughtsman and glass artist shortly after the war.
As a leading representative of the "inner emigration", Georg Meistermann, alongside Willi Baumeister, E. W. Nay and Fritz Winter, was one of the German artists who had a decisive influence on the post-war period.
He consistently followed the path from the figurative to the abstract, often combining abstract elements with figurative ones. Line and color are the two dominant pictorial elements in his work and rhythmized by black contours. These lines outline the overlapping colored areas. Through the title of the painting, the artist hints at a figurative interpretation.
