The Bembé company was founded in 1780 in Mainz. By today's standards, it was a specialty store for interior design. In 1825, furniture production was added. As one of the first in our region, Bembé's company adopted the use of steam engines in 1843.
The range of products eventually extended to complete interiors, from parquet flooring to carpets, clocks, curtains, and decorative pieces. This ensemble is adorned with ornaments that reflect the mixture of Renaissance and Baroque forms, which was popular around 1860. The mirror, on the other hand, showcases the ornamentation of the 'Reform Style,' which returned to stricter and more precise lines in 1910. Over the course of the 19th century, Bembé managed to capture the international market. In 1854, a branch was opened in New York. The Adlon Hotel in Berlin, as well as first-class salons on the ocean liner Titanic, were furnished in Mainz.
