Love – carved in stone

The sculpture of the lovers from around 1320/1340 was located on the façade of a patrician house in Korbgasse no. 8 and served as a decoration for a window sill. The young couple lean closely and lovingly towards each other over a parapet and look down - at the passers-by? In addition to churches and monasteries, the homes of wealthy patrician families were also lavishly decorated. Sculptures decorated the façades and murals adorned the interiors.

Mainz was at the height of its importance around 1300. The economy and trade flourished, which also benefited the citizens of Mainz.
